The major problem is that HRP distrusts the claims of employees regarding bullying and does not trust the ability of the management to deliver key HR practices, though they prioritize their relationship with managers. Additionally, HRP is prone to privileging senior and experienced managers accounts, but they trust employees who are considered to have performance issues less (Catley et al. 2017). Trust between HRP and witnesses are also critical. Most witnesses are reluctant to support bullying cases due to fear of being a target and pressure to conform. This is a major problem as well (Catley et al. 2017). A majority of bullying cases also involve superior-subordinate relationships. Sixty-percent of bullying cases fall under this category (Catley et al. 2017). HRP often find it difficult to solve these cases. However, there is need to investigate the pathways of bullying further to better understand the relationship between context, behaviors, severity, duration, and source (Crisis in the Workplace 2016). Implications of Advancing HR practice Bullying cases should be addressed early on. Otherwise, they manifest into multiple complaints. Some of these complaints are complex and require expertise and a lot of time. Besides, reaching a common ground becomes extremely difficult (Oade 2009). Failure to address bullying is commonly attributed to the behavior being considered acceptable; the organizations misunderstanding of bullying and believes that resolving disputes is not their responsibility (Catley et al. 2017). Another recent study has for the first time considered in detail the relationship between work environment and individuals. This study has developed a model that borrows some principles from other models to illustrate the significance of appreciating different factors can interact to explain workplace bullying. The study draws from victim precipitation theory and explains target characteristics, the responsibility of the work climate in simulating behavior, and dyadic interactions. It also includes a time, and through that, it suggests that many dispositional personalities and stressors are able to represent antecedents as well as the right outcomes (Samnani Singh 2016). Studies that indicate that women are at a higher risk were conducted in male-dominated occupations. Since females have a significant representation in Pakistan universities, the trend could not be the same. However, the finding indicated that individuals between the age bracket of 40 and 50 had a higher risk of being bullied than the general population. This revelation suggests that middle age academics have lower thresholds of tolerance for this particular behavior, which makes it easy for them to respond to bullying behavior. While the research also found some slight difference in the occurrence of workplace bullying between private and public universities in the country, the differences were no significant. This finding contradicts past studies that suggest greater risk of being bullying in public universities (Hoel et al. 2010). In conclusion, this paper provides a comprehensive insight into occurrences and characteristics of workplace bullying that has never been explored. It also explores new causes of workplace bullying and suggests the best solutions and presents a holistic view of the complaint management process. Since research is a continuous exercise, it presents findings that can form the basis for further research. Researchers can consider better approaches to preventing and managing workplace bullying so as to create a healthy academic culture and health workplace culture in general. President Bill Clinton and Russian President Boris Yeltsin are both under steady attack from other would be political leaders. But does this pressure take away time that could better be spend on running they country? Political instability has rocked the country of Russia. Still in its infancy; Russia has only had 1 leader since the demise of the Soviet Union. His name is Boris Yeltsin. He accepted the presidency with the intention to build a new country with capitalism. This is quite a task, but he accepted it head on and has stuck to that goal. But the economy is quickly going down in value. The Ruble (Russian currency) is worth virtually nothing. In the United States Bill Clinton is under investigation concerning his alleged affair with a White House Intern. Mr. Clinton has made several public speeches denying the relationship but later came clean with the public concerning the matter. But with all the public attention brought up concerning both Presidents, how are they expected to run their countries if they spend most of their time defending themselves. Mr. Yeltsin has made several questionable moves, including firing and the re-hiring government officials. He is trying to get his country back into order. The President has a Parliament screaming to have him resign, and all the while he is being distracted from the task at hand. He has a government to run. In public speeches Mr. Yeltsin sticks to his Laisezz faire approach to government. That means he lets the economy run its self. There is no governmental interaction with the economy. He sticks to this as his defense and he believes in it. But everyday he is attacked by the media, and government officials who want change. With this as his only defense he is quickly losing the faith of the people whom elected him. But on the other side of the world there is a different crisis to debate. Mr. Clinton is in the public doldrums of verbal attack by the media and governmental stagnation. No one in the government wants to be associated with Mr. Clinton anymore. Even most of his elected part y has severed ties with the President. He is quickly losing the support of his people as well. Mr. Yeltsin has been hard at work, putting countless hours into solving the financial crisis. All the while taking the beating being dealt out by newspapers and on TV. Mr. Yeltsin has made several questionable moves, including firing and the re-hiring government officials. Mr. Yeltsin is trying to get his country back into order. He has a Parliament screaming to have him resign, and all the while he is being distracted from the task at hand. He has a government to run. He has also been investigated for a failed Financial Deal before his term of office as well as a sexual encounter during his term of office as Governor of Arkansas. The many things that occupy our time – family, school, building a career at work, etc., have made rushing from one place to another and always lacking time for everything common features in most people’s lifestyles. However, the human need to be connected to others is always present, and so people have turned to technology, specifically the internet, or mobile phones to fulfil this need. Family and friends have become more accessible and available in just a click of a button. The internet also offers a myriad of opportunities for meeting more people, relaxing with online games, sharing pictures and videos and an outlet to express innermost thoughts and feelings to share with others. The question of how technology affects interpersonal relationships is becoming a popular issue nowadays. The generation gap between the older people and the younger generation is broadening. Older people are accustomed to candid conversations with eye contact and are usually adept at reading body language and nonverbal gestures. The young people of today are very much into technological communication via texting, internet chatting, tweeting, etc. and are engaged with their mobile phones, Ipods, Ipads and other gadgets. When brought together, the older people may complain that the younger ones are lacking manners because they do not know how to give due attention to their companions. It is as if they live in their own worlds, with their gadgets as their gateway to reach their friends. Michael Bugeja’s book on the Interpersonal Divide meticulously describes how the technological age has affected humankind, most especially its humaneness in interacting with others. What prevail right now in terms of technology are computers, the internet, mobile phones, television, radio and other media paraphernalia. These things physically separate people from each other but provide a way for them to connect using technology. In Chapter 3, Bugeja explains how the proliferation of computer-mediated communication affects our views, expectations and interpersonal relationships. In computer-mediated communication, so many of our personhood becomes filtered that the communication lacks social cues. It then prevents the establishment of strong interpersonal collaboration and trust especially in cyber environments where invisibility is an option. Thus, when people chat online or send text messages, a lot of miscommunication may take place when the received messages are interpreted differently from how the sender meant it. This is because the text do not show people’s tone of voice, facial expression or non-verbal gestures which contribute to the clarity of the message sent. Media and technology saturate the lives of people with so many tasks they can do simultaneously and that makes them feel productive at a faster rate. When they log-out from the virtual world a nd re-join the real world, they may find it difficult to be accustomed to it for some time. The real world has three dimensions- up, down and breadth. It resulted as a need to use reason to distribute human laws. It also came about from a need to solve social, political and economic problems. Joseph Priestley and Antoine Lavoisier built the framework for modern chemistry during the enlightenment. Edward Jenner built a vaccine against smallpox, a deadly disease. Discretion in the Criminal Justice System Essay

Shifting the amount of discretion within our justice system could be for better or worse, but why fix something that’s not broken? Although most police officers use discretion, â€Å"Many police officers (and whole departments) prefer to focus on the justice aspects of police work: getting offenders off the streets, responding to emergencies, scoring big drug busts, and generally ‘catching the bad guys. ‘† (Fuller, J. R. Pg. 6. ) No matter how much discretion you give an officer, it’s ultimately their choice to use it. Although it is common throughout the criminal justice system, some authoritative figures don’t use discretion in a way to guide punishments; they stay in accordance with established guidelines. In my opinion, depending on the severity of the crime discretion should or should not be used. For example, discretion should be used for a first time offender for speeding but should not be used for a first time offender of rape. â€Å"The police are typically the first contact that young victims and delinquents have with the juvenile justice system. As with adults, law enforcement serves as the gatekeeper to the justice system. † (Fuller, J. R. Pg 17. ) It is extremely important for a police officer to make the decision of introducing a juvenile to the justice system. The responsibility for authorities to use discretion is crucial for a juvenile’s future. With adults, less discretion could be used because they have a greater sense of morals. In today’s society I have personally seen adults expect leniency just because, for example, they have a police organization bumper sticker. Enforcing the law for adults who are habitual offenders is necessary to uphold order. One can only push society and the law so far; at some point you must face the consequences. As we talked about in class, the 3-strike rule is a fair method of deciding who should be held accountable. â€Å"Three major studies were commissioned to examine police practices in detail and to update the 1931 Wickersham commission report (National Commission on Law Observance and Enforcement, 1971). These include the report of the President’s Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Justice (1967) entitled The Challenge of Crime in a Free Society (1967), a report of the National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders (1968), and a report of the National Advisory Commission on Criminal Justice Standards and Goals (1973). Each of these commissions was a major undertaking by a large number of scholars and practitioners who focused on solving some of the problems in both policing and the criminal justice system as a whole. The commission reports include multiple proposals to tighten the controls over police discretion, including the use and abuse of force. † (Alpert, Dunham. Pg. 11. ) Whether for good or bad; laws shape citizen’s views of beliefs, actions and character. Unfortunately not all systems of morality and discretion are used properly. Discretion should be used in moderation and to preserve order in society, not used in excessive amounts to threaten the law’s purpose. In summary, I feel discretion is a necessity. With our overcrowded jails, police and judges need to use their training, insight and experience to keep the public safe from individuals that have no regard for the law.
